David F. Mangini

David F. Mangini joined Hughes Gill Cochrane in 2015 as Senior Counsel.  He is involved in all aspects of the firm's construction defect work – from initial claim investigation through resolution by settlement or trial.  He also has extensive appellate and bankruptcy experience.  Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Mangini was with the construction practices group of an international firm and, more recently, with a small plaintiff construction defect firm.  Mr. Mangini has tried seven cases to verdict and has substantial first chair trial experience.  He also has favorably resolved hundreds of matters on behalf of his clients in mediations and in court settlement conferences.  He is a certified mediator and serves by court appointment as a judge pro tem conducting mandatory settlement conferences in Marin County Superior Court.  He also sits as a judge pro tem presiding over motion hearings in San Francisco County Superior Court.

In addition to his construction experience, Mr. Mangini has an extensive background in insurance coverage applicable to construction projects involved in litigation, and has represented insurance carriers on Commercial General Liability policies in the earlier years of his legal career.  This experience contributes to his ability o resolve claims favorable on behalf of his clients by triggering insurance coverage to fund the resolution of claims.

Mr. Mangini is a native San Franciscan and remains a resident to this day.

Educational History

Mr. Mangini earned a Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Psychology from the University of California, San Diego in 1993, with minors in Literature and Italian Studies.   He received his Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco Law School in 1999 and was on the Law Review.  During law school, Mr. Mangini clerked for the Hon. Carlos Bea (now sitting on the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals) in San Francisco County Superior Court, interned at the San Francisco County District Attorney's Office handling felony preliminary hearings, and worked for San Francisco's premier law firm representing construction workers in on-site-injury litigation.

Mr. Mangini is a member of the State Bar of California, and is admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, and the Northern, Eastern, Central and Southern Districts of California of the United States District Court.
